I will remain in power until I die -Mugabe

Long-serving President of Zimbabwe Robert Mugabe has hinted that he intends to contest the next election in 2018 despite the fact that his party would choose a successor for him.

The 92-year-old President who would be 94 by 2018, insisted that he’ll still seek his last five-year term under a new constitution that would see him through to to when he becomes 99 years old.

And while responding to the call by the UN Chief, Ban Ki-moon who said in a statement calling on African leaders not to cling to power, Mugabe responded saying he will continue “until God says ‘come’’.

Inspite being Africa’s oldest leader and the only president Zimbabwe has known since independence in 1980, Mugabe, who turned 92 on Sunday, said he had no intention of stepping down.

Continuing, he said as the president he still remained in charge of day-to-day running of his government.
